West Florida AHEC is Now Also Offering Free Group Quit Classes Virtually

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, quitting is more important than ever! Let us help you get the support you need from the comfort of your own home.

ABOUT THE CLASS:

Pre-registration is required!  Join a Quit Smoking Now or Tools to Quit class in your area. You will be emailed a link to join by ZOOM conference via video or audio. Virtual cessation groups cover all forms of tobacco.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Tobacco Free Florida AHEC Cessation program offers FREE groups in the community to help people quit tobacco for good. The cessation programs are led by trained specialists who guide participants through the quitting process. They help identify triggers and withdrawal symptoms and brainstorm ways to cope with them. Cessation groups are hosted at local public community centers, libraries, and hospitals. West Florida AHEC also offers private workplace cessation groups.

The group classes are provided by trained Tobacco Treatment Specialists. These classes provide tobacco users with the information, resources, and support they need to quit tobacco for good.

TOOLS TO QUIT vs QUIT SMOKING NOW

Quit Smoking Now support groups meet once a week for 4 weeks and cover a variety of topics including coping with withdrawal symptoms, managing addiction and preventing relapse. Cessation groups cover all forms of tobacco.

The Tools to Quit Class is a two hour class that will provide you with information about the effects of tobacco use, the benefits of quitting, and will assist you will developing your OWN QUIT PLAN. Cessation groups cover all forms of tobacco.

Both programs include:

  • How to handle triggers to smoke, dip, chew, or vape such as stress
  • Specific ways to deal with cravings and withdrawal symptoms
  • Developing a personalized quit plan
  • Up to four FREE weeks of nicotine replacement therapy (patches, gum, or lozenges) combinations available using CDC best practice guidelines, while supplies last and medically appropriate.

Quit Smoking Now- meets for an hour once a week for 4 weeks.

Tools to Quit- meets one time for 2 hours.
