West Florida AHEC serves Escambia, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Walton Counties, in Northwest Florida.

In recent years, Florida counties have been adversely affected by severe or economic distress.  In 2011, Florida was ranked 33rd in America’s Health Ranking (American’s Health Rankings 2011 by United Health Foundation.  The challenges faced by Florida’s Department of Health include a “high rate of uninsured population” and a “high geographic disparity within the state.”  West Florida AHEC is on a mission to decrease the use of tobacco among residents, and increase the overall health of the communities by improved access to care, increased physician availability and a greater understanding of healthy living options.
