West Florida AHEC provides two Living Healthy Programs, targeted at very specific needs; chronic disease and improving one’s wellbeing.

Living Healthy (Chronic Disease Self-Management Program)

Living Healthy, also known as the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program or CDSMP, is a 6-week workshop provided once a week.  The workshop is facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom are non-health professionals with chronic diseases themselves.

Individuals with various chronic health problems attend together and learn practical ways to:

  • Manage pain and fatigue
  • Discover better nutrition and exercise choices
  • Understand new treatment choices
  • Learn better methods of communicating with family and doctors about your health

Healthy Eating Every Day

Healthy Eating Every Day (HEED) is a 14-week program that teaches participants how to improve eating habits in ways that fit one’s lifestyle.  Participants will learn how to choose the right balance of food for optimal health, set realistic goals and rewards, and cope with triggers for unhealthy eating.
