About Us

West Florida Area Health Education Center (WFAHEC)

West Florida AHEC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote health and wellness. WFAHEC is one of 10 regional area health education centers in the state of Florida. Together, Florida AHEC centers are an extensive, statewide system for health professional education and support.

West Florida AHEC:

  • Partners with academic institutions for the improvement of health in underserved communities
  • Implements health promotion and disease prevention programs
  • Provides community wellness education programs
  • Develops service learning projects for health professional students
  • Provides training opportunities for health professions students
  • Exposes students to and recruits students into health careers
  • Increases access to health care professionals in rural areas
  • Enhances access to primary care

We seek to achieve this through:

  • Tobacco cessation
  • Tobacco training
  • Enrichment of middle and high school students seeking medical careers
  • Clinical training assistance for medical students and physician assistants
  • Promotion of community and senior health

Programming is based on health and wellness needs identified by the local community.
